Chiropractic is an alternative form of medical practice that results in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mechanical disorders that occur between the spine and nervous system. When the musculoskeletal system isn’t functioning at its best, our general health is impacted.

Using a specialised and unique medical approach, we are able to determine why certain aches and pains occur and can establish a suitable approach to treatment that will enable you, your baby or child to recover and function at your best.

Doctors of Chiropractic use the same time-honoured methods of consultation, case history, physical examination, laboratory analysis and x-ray examination.

We recognise the value and responsibility of working in collaboration with other healthcare practitioners when it is in the best interest of the patient and will provide appropriate support on this basis, should the need arise.

Along with this, we have established a series of partnerships with additional industry-leading experts that will further support you on your road to recovery.

General wear and tear, sporting injuries, pregnancy, age and occupation can all have an impact on our musculoskeletal system, placing it under stress and strain. Our dedicated team at ChiroKids & Mom brings together years of knowledge and expertise that will enable us to provide you with specialised individual care.

We have a passion for babies, moms, children, sports men and women, as well as individuals with special needs, and have established an experienced and knowledgeable team to assist you at either of our practices in Befordview and Petervale, Sandton.

Why chiropractic for kids?

One adjustment in a child is worth 50 in an adult

General screen is recommended following birth

Check-ups are recommended at all major milestones

The goal of treatment is prevention rather than cure

To alleviate or eliminate asymmetries in spinal structure, posture/gait and the symptoms thereof

No chiropractic treatment will be prescribed without evidence of spinal subluxation or lack of mobility at a particular joint of the spine

Treatment involves very gentle spinal/manipulative techniques tailored to the age of baby to help relax stiff joints and stimulate the nervous and immune systems.

Children are subjected to 2 major challenges during development:

  1. Birth trauma or stress
  2. In the first year of life a child develops from a lying infant, to a crawling baby, to a walking toddler.

Ivanna Balanco

Qualifications:

  • Mtech Chiro (UJ)
  • Member Paediatric Chiropractic Africa
  • Current Lactation Student

Experience:

Ivanna is a chiropractor with a special interest in paediatrics and is currently studying to become a lactation consultant. Her approach involves focusing on the connection between the health of both mother and baby, and treating both together.

Ivanna has always felt drawn to helping others, and her interest in chiropractic care was inspired by an early interest in the body’s role in healing itself. Her initial focus on sports medicine has since evolved into concentrating on maternal and child health.

Ivanna has significant experience in volunteering and community outreach work, and this has strengthened her belief in the positive benefits of chiropractic treatments. Her commitment to helping others has also seen her become actively involved in organising events and projects aimed at supporting sick and underprivileged children.

Ivanna undertook shadow work at ChiroKids before joining our team on a full-time basis, and she can now put her expertise in lactation management, breastfeeding counselling, and maternal-infant nutrition to excellent use, alongside her chiropractic skills.

She believes that chiropractic care plays a crucial role in the overall wellbeing of both mothers and their babies, and that through holistic care, she can promote their health and happiness.

  • Member of CASA (Chiropractic Association South Africa) & Paediatric Chiropractic Africa
  • Currently enrolled in Paediatric SOT (Sacro-Occipital Technique)

Kate is a passionate chiropractor, and Mom to three busy, beautiful children. During her time as a chiropractor, she has maintained her love of treating athletes, and also developed a keen professional and person interest in paediatric chiropractic.

Kate’s passion for pre- and postnatal as well as paediatric care was ignited by her own pregnancy and motherhood journey, and helping her babies grow, thrive and reach their milestones.

She loves helping babies feel more comfortable in their own skin, feel less pain and discomfort and grow into awesome, well adjusted, little humans. She is also highly motivated to help Moms enjoy every stage of their journey.

Kate particularly enjoys the challenge of winning the trust of busy toddlers and children, and encouraging them to participate in managing their own health. She has a special interest in special needs children and cerebral palsy as a result of her family experiences, and believes that working as part of a multidisciplinary team can achieve the best results.
